One of the main purposes determined by experts in artificial intelligence consists in reproducing human reasonings by means of machines. Expert systems rank among the first artificial intelligence software programs. They are defined as being computing programmes elaborated in the aim of solving problems whose solution requires a logical reasoning. The purpose of the expert system lies in simulating an expert's reasoning ; an expert is a person, who has thorough knowledge in a special field and who is able to solve problems in an efficient manner. Specialist's knowledge represents a set of methods. It is sometimes difficult to make the connection between these different methods. In an expert system, the technique consists in gathering all the available knowledge in order to model it using of rules, which are as independant as possible. Then, it is necessary to define a working mechanism (an inference engine) able to manipulate this collecting knowledge, in order to find a solution.
